Authorship & review

Substantive WestDebt articles are written or reviewed by James West, the founder, who has 23 years of experience in the debt relief industry. Every article displays an author, a reviewer where applicable, and a published or last-reviewed date. Read more on the About page.

Last-reviewed dates

Debt settlement is a changing field. Each article shows a published date and, where it has been revisited, a last-reviewed date. We periodically re-check older content against current creditor behavior and regulatory guidance and update it, noting the change.

Primary sources

Where a claim rests on law or regulation, we cite primary authorities — the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and relevant federal and state statutes — rather than secondary commentary. Sources are listed at the end of the articles that use them.

Methodology for statistics

When we reference settlement outcomes, we distinguish between (a) documented examples from real settlements, (b) ranges observed in practice, and (c) general industry tendencies. We state what the figure represents, the period or sample where known, and that individual results vary by creditor, balance, timing, and account status. We avoid presenting a single outcome as typical.

Tone & claims

WestDebt guidance avoids absolute promises. We do not guarantee a specific settlement percentage, a specific timeline, or that lawsuits will not occur. We describe what tends to happen in practice and the factors that affect it, so readers can make informed decisions about their own situation.

Corrections

If we find an error or an outdated claim in a published article, we correct it and note the correction date. Readers can report an error to support@westdebt.com and we will review it promptly.
